Our individually crafted indigo placemats are the perfect complement to your fine china or a tasteful addition to even the simplest of meals. The word indigo is derived from the Greek word for the dye “indikon,” meaning a product from India, the earliest major center for indigo production.

The Reeva design with light blue and white linear patterns is created in a 2-step process. The pattern appearing in white is block printed using a dye resistant paste made with mud (locally known as dabu) on white canvas, before placing it gently in an indigo dye bath to achieve the light blue shade for the background. The next pattern appearing in light blue is then blocked with the dabu, and the fabric is once again placed in an indigo dye bath for a proper soak to get the deep blue background. Once all resist is removed, the 2 patterns reveal in white from step 1 and light blue from step 2 against the intensely colored indigo background.

Sold in sets of two, they are easy to combine with linen you already own or other designs in our collection to create a delightful table setting.

*Some color rub off is to be expected in indigo hand printed textiles. We recommend cold washing separately before use.
