The traditional Jamini design with a tea leaf motif is complemented on the reverse by the Reeva design with light blue and white linear patterns to create this striking indigo pillow cover. Simply flip the pillow to refresh your room whenever you desire a change. The word indigo is derived from the Greek word for the dye “indikon,” meaning a product from India, the earliest major center for indigo production.
Our designs are hand block printed on white fabric using a dye resistant paste made with mud (locally known as dabu). The fabric is then placed in an indigo dye bath to achieve the rich color. Once the resist is removed, the eye catching patterns remain in white against the colored background. The two-color Reeva design is printed in a 2-step process, placing the fabric in the indigo dye bath gently to achieve the light blue background after the design appearing in white is resist printed. This is followed by resist printing the second design on the light blue background and placing the fabric in the indigo dye bath for a proper soak to get the rich blue color. The 2-color design is revealed on a deep blue background once all the resist is removed. Curate an eclectic collection of block printed and kalamkari patterns combined with these timeless indigo pillow covers and subtly shift the ambiance of your room.
*Some color rub off is to be expected in kalamkari hand printed textiles. We recommend cold washing separately before use.
