All Marigold Living products are hand made by skilled craftspeople using generations-old techniques and natural materials. Whether weaving, dyeing, wood block printing, hand stitching or embroidery, these methods are influenced by elements of nature and reflect the artisan's expertise and dexterity. Subtle variations in color, pattern and finish are typical in hand crafted fabrics and attest to their authenticity and uniqueness.

Jamini Placemat - Indigo (Set of 2)PMI05JAMIN
Our individually crafted indigo placemats are the perfect complement to your fine china or a tasteful addition to even the simplest of meals. The word indigo is derived from the Greek word for the dye “indikon,” meaning a product from India, the earliest major center for indigo production.
The traditional Jamini design with a tea leaf motif is hand block printed on white canvas using a dye resistant paste made with mud (locally known as dabu). The fabric is then placed in an indigo dye bath to achieve the rich color. Once the resist is removed, the eye catching patterns remain in white against the colored background.
Sold in sets of two, they are easy to combine with linen you already own or other designs in our collection to create a delightful table setting.
*Some color rub off is to be expected in indigo hand printed textiles. We recommend cold washing separately before use.
